PORTUGESE WATER DOG

The best instructions I ever got on a PWD was from the breed club in Toronto.
They are listed in the Dogs in Canada Annual under club directories.
So here goes.... (for the retriever clip)

Head: Looking at the head from the front the top half should (sort of) resemble bichon - roundish no division at the ears (but not as large). The eyes if light should not stand out and therefore the "topknot" should come forward like a bichon. If dark, it can be cut back. The stop should be accentuated, not shaved. The hair at the back of the head/neck should not be full like a bichon but there should be more hair blending into the body (think wheaton).

The underjaw and neck should be clippered with a 4F. The muzzle should be scissored to about the length of a 4 (watch for the facial structure - if too fine the face will resemble a poodle - leave more hair). There is no blending between the muzzle and the head - there is supposed to be a "shelf". The ears are supposed to be short - watch the coat - if wavy leave the length of the ears to the leather - if curly you can shorten the length something like you would if you used a clip on comb on them. Blend into the head.

The body should be long, depending on the dog a #2, 1 1/2 or 1 clip on. The legs should be scissored in.

The tail should be clippered with the same as the body blade for 2/3rd (TWO-THIRDS) the length. The rest should be left as the FLAG. If unsure, the flag begins where the tail has a natural crook.
