Soft Coated Wheaton

When I do a Wheaten pet cut, I use a #4 on the body, chest and under the neck to the top part of the front legs. Taking the 4 blade down the butt to the top of the hocks. I clean the hair off the inside of the back legs with the 4 blade (just like you would on the inside back legs of a schnauzer). Then scissor the legs or I will use the 4 blade and go lightly down the sides of the legs then even with scissors. The front parts of the legs I scissor. Now we get to the tricky parts.

The tail is suppose to resemble a christmas tree /\ wider at the base and smaller at the tip. So here is what I do. I take a #7 up the back side of the tail being careful not to get any of the side hair in the blade. Then take scissors to the side hair cutting on an angle to form the tree. The front part of the tail is scissored to blend into the body. Where the ear folds to hang down I use a #10. Cleaning the hair off the outside and inside of the ear. Then take off all of the fringe that is left on the ear with scissors.

The head is done with thinning shears. Everything must blend together to get the total look of a wheaten. Here goes-the cheeks are thinned from the outside corner of the eye to the inside of the ear. Then blend in under the jaw. From the cheeks to the top of the head should be rounded to the flat top part of the head. Between the ears should be longer than the flat part of the head so that it is blended in and rounding from ear to ear. The fall over the eyes should be blended into the flat part of the head just above the eyes. Taking the thinning shears beside the cheek on outside of the eyes to make a hole so that the dog can see. Like you would do the outside eye part of the eyebrows for a schnauzer, Being careful not to cut to much hair away from the eye. You should only be able to see the eyes looking from the side of the head not the front. Some people like to see the eyes from the front. If this is what they want then you can just thin some of the hair on the fall that is in front of the eye. The beard is rounded on the sides and thinned out some not to be puffy. The underneath of the beard is blended short to long starting from the back to the front at an angle. The belly is cleaned with a 10 blade.

God, that was hard to write down. Sure you don't all want to come visit and I can just show you??? :-)!! Hope this helps. Any questions just email! It is quick and easy for both the groomer and of course the owner. Sometimes it even encourages the owners to brush them.:-)
