My cat Sheba is a Flamepoint Himalayan and her hair is everywhere especially it is especially terrible when it it is in my food. I decided to shave her. She trusts me and feels relaxed with me normally so when i shaved her in a lion cut she was rlaxed and even purring most of the time. Yes, she tried to get away sometimes but i wonder if her purring is just a coping technique and that she really is angry at me. She seems to be more personable and playful after i trim her fur. If i do cut her when trimming it is a barely noticeable nick and does not bleed. Is what i am doing wrong?

Are you asking if shaving her is wrong? Not in my opinion. You are happy, she is happy, it's just hair. She can't see herself in a mirror and even if she could, I doubt if she'd care what she looked like. :-)

Barb I think she wondered if nicking her cat when shaving it is something she is doing wrong. My guess.

Of the cats I shave most act like they think they look good. My own cat struts after being shaved, loves to wave her tail slowly back and forth, like look at me!
Be careful with nicking a cat, their skin is thin like tissue paper and a small nick can become a big tear, even if it doesn't bleed. Make sure you are pulling the skin taunt and be extra careful where there are skinfolds, like the underarms, also be careful of shaving around the nipples, they can easily be shaved off if you aren't careful.

I would not reccomend any non-experianced person attempt to shave their own cat.
Too dangerous for the cat.
If it's your cat, and you are prepared to be careful and prepared for a vet visit should you slice skin by accident(which is EASILY done on a cat even by very experianced groomers), then it's up to you.
If you are asking whether it's okay to shave a cat, it's not going to hurt a cat to have shaved hair.
It is possible to injure a cat while trying to shave it, so if you were to shave your cat, please at least be EXTREMELY careful and paranoid that you'll cut it.

It sounds to me like she has already shaved and nicked her cat.

I had my himalayan mix shaved (partial lion cut) without any fur on the tail and he went crazy after he came home and chased the tail, kept biting it until it bled and I had to put an e collar on him. Now he is just not himself and doesn't appear to want to use the litter box. Any suggestions

I've seen that happen before and because of that, I never shave the full tail on a dog or cat.

Is he still wearing the collar? That might be inhibiting him getting in and out of the litter box. Stress can also bring on urinary tract infections in cats. I would definitely have him checked out by a Vet. Medical problems are usually the cause of bad litter box habits. The sooner they are treated, the less chance of him feeling the box is 'bad' and causing his problems.

Yes he's still wearing the collar and seems to be a little less nervous. He used the litter box last night and this morning but he bumped his collar on the entry and got freaked (I should have taken the top off). My vet says to have him keep the collar until the tail has healed, three or four days and then take it off when I am with him and see how it goes. My groomer asked whether I wanted somethin left on the tail but it was my first time and he didn't say anything. I just want him to relax and enjoy the short hair for the summer.

Your groomer may not have ever had an animal react that way before. I had one cat do it and decided then that I would never shave a full tail again. I'm sure I had shaved many prior to that with no problem.

Once he's healed and the collar comes off, I bet he'll be back to his old self again. :-)

thanks. That makes me feel better. He is at the vet getting his tail bandaged and making sure he is ok for a few days and then we'll see. It was so odd to see the change.
