How can I remove the tree sap from my poor little yorkie's paw. It is on the underside of her paw and has a small piece of stick stuck in it. I am afraid to cut at it for fear of cutting her foot pad. Anyone with suggestions or know-how, please let me know. |

Peanut butter...rub it in....it dissolves gum in hair, why not try it on tree sap? Safe for dog too! |

I've had some success with moisturizing cream. Just rub it in well and keep adding cream and rubbing it in. For small jobs it seems to work well - but I'm going to Walmart and getting Desolve too! |

Desolve It worked great! My dog was covered from head to tail in pine sap. We tried everything we could think of, and nothing else worked. |

Desolve it from Walmart - awesome stuff! Thanks again to this board I was able to learn something new. One of my clients had called the night before, her dog was covered in tree sap, it was all over his fur. Poor baby, there was one spot where the sap had irritated the skin and left it raw and painful. It took not even 2 minutes to get all the sap off, give the dog a bath, and charge extra for the special handling! |

I used rubbing alcohol on my dogs paws and the sticky sap and pine needles came right off! It was cheap, available right away, painless, non-toxic and easy to use! Thanks for the advice. |

Here's another vote for peanut butter for a nice available home remedy - and good for a few laughs too! |

Desolveit from Wal Mart did the trick. On the grocery side with soap/cleaners. My schnauzer stepped in pine tree sap and his foot was covered along with the gravel he picked up. A few sprays and dunking in warm water did the trick. After the foot was shampooed, back to normal. |

WD-40 won't hurt the dog and will take off anything water and soap wont. I've used it on road tar. Just wash the dog afterwards in dawn or full strength shampoo. |

}My new puppy found the pine tree and had a few dots of sap on her fur, after reading the discussion board, i decided to try "Mary Kay Oil free eye makeup remover" and a cotton ball. WOW! GOODBYE SAP! Simple, non-irritating to pup and only used a very small amount! Thanks Mary Kay cosmetics |

Some fyi's: Please err on the side of safety for the dog. You generally should always avoid petroleum products (like wd-40- read the can for safety precautions) on any animals skins' , including humans. (That's the reason mechanics now wear gloves when working with petroleum products- it's a long term cancer causing agent, it's absorbed into the skin.) Also, just because something is organic, doesn't mean it's safe for animals/humans, for example Asbestos would be organic- it's a mineral that comes directly from the ground, and not altered in any way. And it's also HIGHLY cancer causing. For your animals safety, please look for something approved for animal use. Thanks. |
